[phpbay]Babyhawk Carrier,95,117031[/phpbay]

My daughter is 10 months old and I need something to carry her in. She is around 20 pounds and hates the stroller and the buggy at walmart, target, etc. I dont' want something that is going to be too confining because she likes to be "free". I also want something that isn't going to poke, jab, or irritate me. I am pretty big chested (38 DDD), and I am somewhat overweight (I have about 40-50 pounds to lose to get to my ideal weight). I am a size 16 if that helps. I would also like to have this carrier for me to walk with her, so I can get out and try to get some of this weight off of me.
Any suggestions??
LOL! It's funny you should mention the Beco-I had a website pulled up for the Beco when you posted that
I have big boobies and we use an ergo with no problem. you can loosen the straps to fit to your body (and I've got plenty of room left on all of mine even with big boobs. I think they also have waist extenders that clip on to the waist strap so that you can make it bigger if you want. I'm not sure how the mei tai works because I've never seen it in person and you can't really see how it wraps/ties/snaps on to you (or whatever it does) but the ergo just clips together in two places and it's pretty structured and heavy duty which is good for a bigger toddler. the other carrier I've heard good things about is the beco which seems sort of like a hybrid of the two. they have a lot more designs for the beco than the ergo too. whoever is designing for ergo needs to get on the ball! you should look into the beco (sorry to give you more options).

I don't really like the backpack look of the ergo, and the mei tai looks more appealing to me, which one is more comfortable? do you recommend one over the other?
thanks
Ooh - tricky one! Some mums like one or other, some like either.
I like the Ergo because the buckles make it quick to put on, no long straps to drag on wet winter ground while tying (though tucking straps MT straps into your belt works while putting it on), padded waist helps transfer weight onto the hips so likely to be able to carry for longer (eg. 3-4 years old).
Babyhawk - lots of colourful options, more curvy mums often find them more comfotable with no buckles to dig into large boobs, pack up smaller due to less rigis waist.
Resale value is great on both slings so if you feel you've gone with the wrong one you'll recoup your money OK.
Perhaps check out if you have any sling enthusiasts locally so you can try them both on, or maybe a local sling lending library to try before you buy. Check out the link - might ne of help - certainly reviews somewhere on the site.

I'm interesting in getting a Mei Tai carrier for my 18 month old. Sometimes when we go out, she doesn't want to go in the stroller, but the area is too crowded for her to walk. I figured wearing a Mei Tai would be good for her and I to be comfortable without tiring out my arms by carrying her.
I realize she is older which is why I am asking to see if anyone still uses their baby carrier at this age. I just wanted to find an easier way to carry her in a crowded area where I feel babies shouldn't just be free to walk around.
I stopped using ours around a year ago. Our little one is turning two. It got to where it hurt my back so bad I couldn't stand it. Maybe one that you carry the child on your back instead of on the front. I don't think my back could take her riding around like that anymore. We mostly just pull her around in a wagon and she loves it!

our choices are as follows:
1. singing rocks in PA
2. Salem Mass, and Niagra Falls with Canada
3.Virginia beach, bush gardens and Williamsburgh VA
4. DC zoo, and two museums *this trip we do two at a time to really experience the museum* tai food near Georgetown and see some of the political sites for our troops like Iwo Jima and Arlington Cemetary where I will be after I die.
5.Baltimore zoo, and aquarium and a ferry ride to fell's point. hooking up with her aunt and cousin.
if anyone has any other suggestions please feel free to add them. I am east coast and cannot go to other countries or even across my own, so those will be ignored if written. ty all for your ideas and help. ![]()
(((propreno))) ty so much I think you're right!!!
I put myself in your daughter's shoes to answer this (((WS))).
Well, more like "squeezed" myself in them,
but I think a 5yr old would enjoy and get the most spiritually from your #5.
The zoo, aquarium, ferry ride..
These are MOST AWESOME to a small child.
Then of course, there is family involved too!
That's a bonus..
Someone mentioned a jellyfish exhibit.
I've taken children to see the exact same thing years ago, and they still talk about it today.
There's something magical and otherworldly about them that she will not soon forget..
It's too bad you are not on the west coast
