I just got 2 baby piggies. Their previous home had them on Mazuri feed. But I was looking at the ingredients and discovered that it has some things in it that isn't good for guinea pigs. I want to get a good pellet and slowly switch them over to it.
Is the Cavy Performance a good, high quality, feed for growing pigs?
P.S. I feed them fresh greens, timothy hay and alfalfa hay, along with their pellets.
Marysmuse the Cavy Performance is alfalfa based for young guinea pigs, the Cavy Cuisine is timothy based for older guinea pigs.
irishdancershop thanks for the info, I've already gone over those three sites about 50 times! I want my pigs to have only the best. I have two baby boys, and they live in a 2x6 C&C cage.
Oxbow is definitly better than the Mazuri, Oxbow is known as the best-it sounds like you've got a pretty good diet to me. Mazuri does have ingredients that are not good for guinea pigs so you'll want to switch asap.
Check out www.guinealynx.com for the best information around about guinea pigs, the forums over there are wonderful and there are a ton of members with a lot of guinea pig experience. Also look at www.guineapigcages.com and www.cavyspirit.com
All 3 of those sites have the most up to date and correct information on diet, health and housing for guineapigs.
Good luck with your new piggies!

Mama- my daughter won't hate me. My husband and I love her name and thats all that matters.
I like the Moby Wrap for economical reasons, but LOVE my Ergo.
The Ergo can be used as a front carrier, back carrier, or hip-sling. It's the most comfortable carrier I've ever used, and my son consistently sleeps in it. My daughter used to sleep in her carrier, but never deeply and she never pooped in it. He's comfortable enough in the Ergo that he sleeps and poops. Also it goes up to 40lbs, so I actually strapped my toddler into it (she's 25lbs) when we went walking across a parking lot to go to another store and she loved it as well as I did. The Ergo Sport and Performance have longer waist bands and shoulder straps, so my husband or just about anyone in the family can wear my Ergo Sport and carry the baby around. They're soft and light-weight. Right now, whenever I take my 2 month old anywhere I strap on the Ergo, put him in, and off we go. He peeks out at people, and when he's had enough he nestles his head in against me, closes his eyes and sucks his thumb, then goes right to sleep.
The only negative with the Ergo is that it's more than $100. But my husband, who had to wear all the carriers in the past because of the way they fit, said that it's worth the money because of the comfort. And you can sometimes get a good deal on the Ergo site, or on ebay. I couldn't use it the first month because I had a c-section, but after the first month it was comfortable to carry him that way. With my daughter, we had to quit using her carrier when she hit about 15lbs, it was uncomfortable. But like I said, I put her in it at 25lbs and went walking and didn't even have a back-ache afterwards. It's just so well designed.
[phpbay]Carrier 39 Code,95,117031[/phpbay]

My husband wants to keep his Chicago area code because he uses his cell for his Chicago-based job, but we live in San Diego so I'd like to keep my San Diego area code. AT&T can't do a family plan with two different area codes. Anyone know of a carrier that will do it?
You are going to have a hard time finding a company that can do that for you. The reason why is because most locations are restricted to their own areas for activations. That way they don't have to worry about stealing business from each other within the company. Places that are borderline of area codes, like right on the state line can usually do it, but only for the local area, not wherever the customer chooses. You would probable have to port the San Diego number in from there, and then port the Chicago number in from Chicago. That's the only way I can think of to do it. Good luck!
