what do you think about the new baby sling warnings?
I have been reading lately about baby slings and the risk of suffocation. I really liked using the snugli when my son was a newborn and though I am only 9 weeks with my second, I figured it'd be a lifesaver with a new baby and almost 3 year old to be able to carry the little one in the sling and keep up with my son. I haven't seen any brands specified do you think the problem is more with the clothlike slings that are worn really tight? Or just a case of people falling asleep or being careless with a baby in a sling? Are you less likely to use a sling now? Just curious.
I also was given an infantino 'bag' sling as a present-I was never comfortable with it because my son was so low in there and I couldn't see him.
I didn't mean to imply that I ever slept/didn't pay attention when my son was in a sling -Not the case at all! -just wondered if it was the case with these reported accidents.
the slings in question are the infantino sling rider ones:

and ones similar. I don't own any of those and I didn't purchase them because they do look dangerous. it's dangerous for a baby to be slumped forward like they are in those things -- the moby and the ergo that I have keep my baby upright on my chest, versus those things that sling the baby much lower. the tightness doesn't have anything to do with it, it's the fact that a baby's neck slumps too far forward with the way that the fabric and design of that sling is and it cuts off a baby's airway. and another thing is how dumb do you have to be to not be constantly checking your baby while wearing them? when I wear my baby I can feel him breathing and I'm checking on him all the time.
