Does anyone know of a baby swing that has a removable seat/carrier?
Back in the late 80's and early 90's tons of them were like this and they were so cool! But I cant seem to find any. I cant understand why, they were amazing. they doubled as a cradle a bassinet a carrier and a baby seat!
If there are, might I say I hope they go the way of the dinosaur. There have been numerous studies about how you should not allow your 0-6 month old sleep in a car seat, whether it's on a stroller, being used as a rocker, or whatever. Car seats are for car transportation. When baby is not being transported, the car set should not be used, even if he/she were asleep in the car seat, they should be taken out and put into a chest carrier, a stroller that lays completely flat, or in a crib or bassinet. Every other product that holds them at an incline (from strollers to swings) should be able to recline so far back that they're either flat, or else the chin of the baby comes up off of the chest.
Why? There have been numerous studies showing that babies in a crumpled/inclined position have a harder time breathing than babies who are laid flat. First link is the first study in 2001, which is when some of these designs went away it sounds like. Second link is from 2009, and talking how people should avoid car seats for anything but in the car, and avoid putting their baby at an incline.
To me, I would hope that this design has been limited and gotten rid of simply because of these warnings and dangers. If you do go with a design like that, read these articles about how to make sure that the baby's head isn't tilting forward to try and make sure it's safe.
