Peanut Shell Carrier?
i'm curious about the peanut shell baby carrier.
do you have one? do you like it?
i saw one in a consignment store the other day now i am temped to go back and see if they still have it -- the are selling it for 25 - good deal?
I bought it twice and returned it twice. I am between a size small and medium as I am tallish, skinny with a bigger chest. The small was too tight and baby could barely get in and the medium was uncomfortable because baby hung too low. Also consider that if you are newly postpartum that your sizing will change drastically over the next year or so. Best to go with a carrier that is adjustable.
I have a few and like them for different reasons.
Maya Wrap ring sling: Great from about 3 months (with head control) till 8 months or so. After that my daughter was too heavy. Nice for the hip carry although not for a long period of time.
Mei Tai: Great for a newborn, after my daughter was older she didn't fit in it well.
Ergo Carrier: My absolute favorite, very comfortable, easy to put on/adjust, can be worn all day without hurting your back. I can still wear my 19 month old in it for long periods of time, if necessary. I started using it around 6 months, I can't speak to how it is for younger babies but you can use it from birth with the infant insert.
Moby wrap or similar (homemade works great and is cheap, email me if you want instructions): Great for a newborn, easy to use, comfortable, and economical if you make it yourself. (no sew, just the cost of the fabric)
So, that was a long-winded answer to say that no, I don't recommend the peanut shell unless it's free.
