Mei Tei baby carriers?
I am a hands down Ring Sling "pusher". I believe every mom should receive one when their child is born. I even started making them I love them so much. They are warm and snuggly and sooo convinent while in the grocery store. The extra long tail is fab to use as a burp cloth or a face wipe.
Well my son is now one and oh, boy is he a wiggly worm. The sling is just not as convienent as it once was. I am considering a Mei Tei. I have no problem investing in a good quality (washable!) one if it really works for us.
Anyone currently use one? Any advice for buying one? Is there a difference between the expensive and inexpensive ones? What should I look for in the better ones?

I can't say enough good things about my Babyhawk! It's comfy for both of us, and I love that her weight is distributed across both of my shoulders, and that the shoulder straps are padded. I always get compliments on it, and it's so much prettier than any of the carriers you see at the stores. I had mine made with a pocket on the front panel, so I never need to carry a diaper bag either. When I use my ring sling, I really miss that pocket!
I still use the RS for quick errands, but the MT is so much better for long trips (especially grocery shopping). It is more of a production to get her in and out, but it's not nearly as complicated as it looks and it's easy once you get the hang of it. I have dipped the tails in a puddle before, but it machine washes/dries really well, so it's not too bad.
As far as wigglies, she definitely feels more secure in the MT. I've felt like she might take a nose dive out of the sling a few times, especially since she wants to crawl on the floor everywhere now!
I don't know if there's a difference in cheap vs expensive ones, except for maybe the fabric choices and having padded shoulders (which I think is a must). I do know that I made a mei tai from a free pattern online, and it doesn't even begin to compare to my Babyhawk!
