Soft pack carriers - your thoughts please!?
I'm considering purchasing a soft pack carrier (e.g. Mei Tai. NOT a sling). There seems to be a large number of options and I'm a bit lost! If you use a soft pack carrier I'd love to know which one you use and your feedback, good and bad.
Also I'd love to get some feedback on the various Mei Tai styles - what you liked, what you didn't. These seem great, but again, not sure what makes one option better than the other!
Thanks!
P.S. my baby is 5 months old. Am looking to wear it mainly in the front and on the hip.
A baby should only be on the front to about 20lbs, and most MTs don't allow for easy facing out positions because it's not great for the baby. Your baby is old enough to go on your back now
But carrying on the front, tummy to tummy, is so cozy. The hip carry is a bit annoying with a MT; it's much more suited for a pouch or a ring sling. If you absolutely aren't going to do back carries, I wouldn't bother with an MT, I'd just get a pouch or RS.
I like wide straps that will fit easily over my narrow shoulders. Some narrow, padded straps come off the body at an angle that is too wide for my shoulders, but the wide straps can be more easily placed where I need them. I don't use a sleep hood (my girl is just shy of 2 1/2 and rarely naps in the carrier), but at your baby's age, it might be handy.
I like a heavy, structured waistband, like an Ergo, but with tie shoulder straps. However, my baby is 33lbs, and we go for 2 mile walks, LOL.
