Why can't she ride facing outward on his back? My husband and I just bought an Infantino Front2Back Rider?

carrier. We experimented with several positions and the most comfortable for my husband was on his back with her facing out. We walked around the block and she was very comfortable, even feel asleep. When we got home and read the manual a little better it said that the baby should be able to sit up unassisted and be at least six months old to ride in the back and should ALWAYS be facing inward toward your back. Why can't she ride on the back until she's six or face outward??? She's three months old and can hold her head up pretty well, but obviously can't sit unassisted. She seemed fine (happy really), but I don't want to be damaging her.....we are new to baby wearing!
also, just to be clear....we would never carry her on our backs by ourselves--only when we were together or someone else was there to keep an eye on her!

I have been making slings and helping mother and fathers 'wear' their babies in the safest way.

There are a number of reasons why your baba should be facing into you or your partner.

1 - her spine is very delicate. You need to hold her with her spine in the natural 'lose - lazy' postion. You do not want to put any forced pressure onto her spine. You will know from holding her her spine is flexiable and you want to keep her comfortable. Keep baby in to your chest till she can sit up with good head control.

2 - Your baby needs to beable to sit up before you face her outwards or carry her on your back. It is this control she wil need to be able to move to get more comfortable. Also if she gets sleepy, you do not want her head to roll forward with her chin to chest. This will cause her breathing to be more shallow. I have never carried a baby on my back outwards. This does not sound safe or comfortable due to the curves of the spines of you and your baby back to back.

When you hold a baby on your front in the 'heart to heart' hold she will be safe, there will be know strains on her little body and no pressure on her fragile bones
