They're absolutely fine, and brilliant if you have a fussy baby and need to get on with the housework! I used one with both my sons. My firstborn i carried everywhere in one from birth until he was 2 or 3 months old!
They have head support, and just hold the baby the same way you would if you clutched him/her to your chest when cuddling.
