Frequently Asked Questions:

Can you make a homemade moby wrap with a flat bed sheet?
I have tons of flat bed sheets lying around since I never put them on my bed. I already saw a video on youtube on how to make a sheet into a pouch sling ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAWAk4svsl8) and it made me wonder if I can make one into a moby wrap type sling. I know they should have some stretch and the sheets don't have any. How important is it for the fabric to be stretchable ( 95% cotton and 5% spandex)?
A few of the sheets I glanced at were like 90% cotton 10% polyester or 80% polyester 20% cotton....I know if I can make slings out of those they would be more of an autumn sling since its a fabric that will make you hot and sweaty in warm weather.
I know gauze type fabrics work but I'm just trying to find something that I want ( a moby type wrap) with stuff lying around the house.
Go to the bargain bin at Walmart. I got 5 yards of rib-knit fabric there for five dollars. Makes a perfect knock-off moby.
I wouldn't use a sheet for any sort of wrap. It's not long enough- you're going to need at least four yards. And as you said, it has no stretch, not any. Even the 'non stretch' wraps, like didymos and storchenweige have a teeny bit of stretch. Much less than the actual stretch fabric of a moby, but there needs to be some to cradle baby.
