So I am moving out of the country and I am bringing my baby, my 9 lb male cat. He hates being in his carrier but doesnt fuss too much, but he does meow. He is flying with me in-cabbin, he will be right under my seat the whole time. The issue is that I am flying on a red-eye, so lots of people may be sleeping. I also heard that some air port security policies require that the pet be taken out of the carrier to inspect everything. My question is this: should I consider a using a tranquelizer on my cat? He will be wearing a harness and i got his nails clipped so he doesn't scratch anyone, but still. I am afraid he may be meowing in the middle on the over-night flight and also acting stubborn while being handled by security.

Any advice would be very helpful, I want him to be comfy and make his trip the least traumatic it can be, so would tranquelizers make him feel calmer, too?
